How do babies figure out where words begin and end? And how does a made-up language based on the statistical properties of language help us find out?
Join the Language Sciences Movie Night on July 2nd from 5pm (PDT) for a virtual screening of First Words, an episode of the Netflix documentary Babies, followed by an online Q&A with Dr. Jenny Saffran, University of Wisconsin-Madison Professor of Psychology.
Dr. Saffran, Principal Investigator of the university's Infant Learning Lab, is interviewed in First Words. With an introduction by Dr. Janet Werker, Dr. Saffran will answer questions from participants, and talk about the documentary, and her research on the learning abilities required for children's language acquisition.
