Congratulations

  • Dr. Cheryl Wellington and Dr. Shelina Babul have been nominated in this year’s YWCA Women of Distinction Awards. Recognized nationally, the YWCA Women of Distinction Awards honours individuals and organizations whose outstanding activities and achievements contribute to the well-being and future of our community. In addition to their nominations in the category Research, the Sciences & Technology, Drs. Wellington and Babul are eligible for the Connecting the Community Award, which is a peoples’ choice award. Vote for Dr. Wellington and Dr. Babul over the coming weeks, and find out how they’re using their research to end violence against women.
  • Dr. Luke Clark and the UBC Centre for Gambling Research received $1.36 million over five years from the Province of British Columbia and the British Columbia Lottery Corporation to support research to reduce harms related to gambling.
  • Dr. Stephanie Willerth has been promoted to Professor, Biomedical Engineering at the University of Victoria, and has joined the UBC School of Biomedical Engineering as Affiliate Professor.
  • Dr. Tamara Bodnar (PI: Dr. Joanne Weinberg) received the Sterling Clarren Award from the Canada FASD Research Network for her research on prenatal alcohol exposure.
