Dr. Leigh Anne Swayne is an Associate Professor in the Division of Medical Sciences at the University of Victoria, and an Affiliate Associate Professor in Cellular And Physiological Sciences at UBC. She is a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research and British Columbia Schizophrenia Society Scholar. A cellular neurobiologist by training, her team studies the fundamental mechanisms of cellular plasticity (e.g. growth and development, morphological changes, and survival/degeneration) in the brain and, more recently, the heart.

Research Information

The Swayne lab uses a multi-level approach (imaging, cell biology, biochemistry, and proteomics), to bridge critical knowledge gaps in the understanding of neuronal and cardiac cell development and dysfunction.
